Don’t Resist Sexual Temptation
The majority of Christians who struggle with sexual sin don’t understand their battle. They think sexual temptation is something they are to resist, or fight, or conquer.
In this groundbreaking book, Alan Sharpe explains why you don’t resist sexual temptation—you flee. Sexual immorality isn’t something you battle head-on. It’s something you escape.
Using the Bible as his authority, Alan Sharpe illustrates in 115 ways how victory over sexual immorality is all about managing temptation, and how the biblical method for managing sexual temptation is to run from it.
If you are a Christian who struggles with sexual sin but longs for victory, learn how to flee. This book shows you how.
A word from the author
This book came about through sheer desperation. In November of 2021, I purposed in my heart and before God to forsake pornography, to rid it from my life and to never go back. To help me reach my goal, I started studying my Bible to see what God has to say on the subject of sexual sin, sanctification, temptation and more.
I began writing about what I discovered as a daily devotional about sexual sin and how to overcome it God’s way. I eventually collated my thoughts into a book, Make No Provision, a daily devotional for Christian men who want to conquer porn biblically.
Over the space of a few years, as I gained and maintained victory over my sexual sin, I discovered that my battle was not outward, but inward. My enemy was not pornography—it was me. I was my porn problem. I realized that, even though I was no longer looking at pornography, it still tempted me. And, since I cannot be tempted by something I don’t desire, or, to put it in the positive, since I can only be tempted by something I desire, my battle was not with the wicked porn industry, but with my own wicked desires.
I discovered that my enemy was not porn, but temptation. My battle was not with apps, or websites, or R-rated movies, but with lust. My lust. My battle was with the temptation to commit sexual sin by whatever method was nearest at hand.
And then, one day, while sitting in a coffee shop at 51st Street and Millar Avenue in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in the winter of 2023, the Lord brought 1 Corinthians 6:18 to my recollection:
Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
In that moment, the Lord showed me the key to it all: sexual temptation isn’t something to fight, but to flee. Gaining victory in this area, if one can even call it that, requires disciples of Jesus to run away, to escape—to flee. Our role model isn’t Joshua. It’s Joseph. (Joshua fought, Joseph fled.)
This is why I’ve put this book into your hands. I figure that, if the revelation that God supplied is worth something to me, it’s worth sharing with other sojourners who are hungering and thirsting after righteousness. What you’re about to read is everything I’ve learned these past few years about how to escape sexual temptation, biblically.
