Answers

  1. Paul characterizes the struggle with sin as a walk. Not a battle to win, not a struggle to fight, but a walk to take with the Lord.
  2. Discipline. The six sins that Paul mentions are examples of lack of self control.
  3. Two out of these six sins are sexual in nature (lewdness and lust).
  4. Paul mentions two remedies for lewdness and lust: 1. Put on Christ. 2. Make no provision for the flesh.
  5. One remedy is something you are to do. The other remedy is something you are to avoid.
  6. To “put on the Lord Jesus Christ” means to clothe yourself with Him. Christ becomes your example, the object of your affection, and the indwelling source of your power.
  7. To “make no provision for the flesh,” you give no forethought about your earthly lusts and how and where and with whom you will satisfy them. You manufacture no plans, construct no scenarios, and create no opportunities, for satisfying the lusts of your sinful flesh.
  8. Your flesh is a problem because it lusts after things it shouldn’t have.
