“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Revelation 21:8
If you persist in your use of pornography as a Christian man, expect increasing pain, because sexual sin is progressive. It grows more wicked over time. As you continue to indulge your sinful flesh, your flesh requires stronger and ever-more wicked forms of pornography to get the same dopamine buzz. As you head deeper and deeper into your sin, the consequences of your sexual immorality build. Here are 50 repercussions you should expect over time if you are a married Christian man with children, and if you refuse to forsake your habitual use of pornography.
If I refuse to forsake my habitual use of porn, I will:
- Displease the Lord Jesus, the One whose approval matters most to me
- Lose my self-respect
- Cause untold hurt to my best friend and loyal wife
- Drag Christ’s sacred reputation into the gutter
- Lose the respect and trust of my wife
- Lose all spiritual power
- Lose the respect and trust of my children (“Why listen to a man who betrayed Mom and us?”)
- Create memories and flashbacks that taint intimacy with my wife
- Contract a venereal disease by having sex with someone other than my wife
- Pass my venereal disease on to my wife
- Experience self-induced erectile disfunction
- Bring shame and lifelong embarrassment upon myself
- Break the ninth of the 10 commandments (lying), since I must tell falsehoods and half-truths to hide my secret sin from my wife and others
- Lose my wife when she divorces me
- Get kicked out of my home
- Lose custody of or access to my children following the divorce
- Bring shame on my extended family
- Wreck my Christian testimony
- Endure the cruel comments of others who inevitably find out about my unrepentant sexual sin
- Bring shame on my church family
- Bring reproach upon my pastors and elders
- Grieve the Holy Spirit
- Damage my beloved children spiritually and emotionally when they are most vulnerable, perhaps for life
- Break the tenth of the 10 commandments, because looking at porn means I covet my neighbor’s wife
- Cause other Christian men to stumble into the same sin
- Hurt my friends, and especially those I’ve ministered to through any work I’ve done in the church
- Incur feelings of remorse impossible to shake
- Discredit my own name
- Get fired from my job when my employer catches me viewing porn on company computers
- Disqualify myself after having preached to others
- Forfeit forever untold opportunities to serve God
- Be haunted by my sin as I look in the eyes of others, and having it all dredged up again wherever I go, whatever I do
- Undermine the hard work and prayers of those who tried to help me forsake my sexual sin
- Incur the disdain of the people of this sinful world when they say, “This is a hypocrite—who can take seriously anything he and his church have said and done?”
- Cause laughter, rejoicing and blasphemous smugness among those who hate God and the church
- Bring great pleasure to Satan, the enemy of God
- Break the eighth of the 10 commandments (theft), since masturbating to porn in private deprives my wife of the sexual pleasure that is rightfully hers alone
- Follow in the footsteps of men whose immorality forfeited their ministry, scandalized the world and the church, and caused me to shudder
- Heap judgment and endless problems on the women I commit adultery with
- Break the second of the 10 commandments, since sexual immorality is idolatry
- Cause one or more of the woman I commit adultery with to become pregnant, creating great personal and financial problems for them (and me)
- Gradually become desensitized to and bored with the type of pornography I consume, seeking more-perverse forms of sexual imagery
- Graduate to deviant forms of pornography, including rape, sexual violence and other sex acts that are illegal
- Eventually act out on my sexual fantasies in the real world, with prostitutes or others
- Get caught, arrested and charged for my sexual deviancy
- Get convicted and sentenced to spend time in prison with rapists, child molesters and fellow sexual deviants
- Earn the designation of Registered Sex Offender for life
- Find it next to impossible to land a job once employers discover I am a Registered Sex Offender
- Wind up an apostate, alienated from God
- Upon my death, be cast into the Lake of Fire with the sexually immoral (Revelation 21:8), to be tormented day and night forever, as I deserve
