50 Consequences to Expect if You Never Forsake Your Porn

If you persist in your use of pornography as a Christian man, expect pain today, and the Lake of Fire eventually. Sexual sin is progressive.

“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Revelation 21:8

If you persist in your use of pornography as a Christian man, expect increasing pain, because sexual sin is progressive. It grows more wicked over time. As you continue to indulge your sinful flesh, your flesh requires stronger and ever-more wicked forms of pornography to get the same dopamine buzz. As you head deeper and deeper into your sin, the consequences of your sexual immorality build. Here are 50 repercussions you should expect over time if you are a married Christian man with children, and if you refuse to forsake your habitual use of pornography.

If I refuse to forsake my habitual use of porn, I will:

  1. Displease the Lord Jesus, the One whose approval matters most to me
  2. Lose my self-respect
  3. Cause untold hurt to my best friend and loyal wife
  4. Drag Christ’s sacred reputation into the gutter
  5. Lose the respect and trust of my wife
  6. Lose all spiritual power
  7. Lose the respect and trust of my children (“Why listen to a man who betrayed Mom and us?”)
  8. Create memories and flashbacks that taint intimacy with my wife
  9. Contract a venereal disease by having sex with someone other than my wife
  10. Pass my venereal disease on to my wife
  11. Experience self-induced erectile disfunction
  12. Bring shame and lifelong embarrassment upon myself
  13. Break the ninth of the 10 commandments (lying), since I must tell falsehoods and half-truths to hide my secret sin from my wife and others
  14. Lose my wife when she divorces me
  15. Get kicked out of my home
  16. Lose custody of or access to my children following the divorce
  17. Bring shame on my extended family
  18. Wreck my Christian testimony
  19. Endure the cruel comments of others who inevitably find out about my unrepentant sexual sin
  20. Bring shame on my church family
  21. Bring reproach upon my pastors and elders
  22. Grieve the Holy Spirit
  23. Damage my beloved children spiritually and emotionally when they are most vulnerable, perhaps for life
  24. Break the tenth of the 10 commandments, because looking at porn means I covet my neighbor’s wife
  25. Cause other Christian men to stumble into the same sin
  26. Hurt my friends, and especially those I’ve ministered to through any work I’ve done in the church
  27. Incur feelings of remorse impossible to shake
  28. Discredit my own name
  29. Get fired from my job when my employer catches me viewing porn on company computers
  30. Disqualify myself after having preached to others
  31. Forfeit forever untold opportunities to serve God
  32. Be haunted by my sin as I look in the eyes of others, and having it all dredged up again wherever I go, whatever I do
  33. Undermine the hard work and prayers of those who tried to help me forsake my sexual sin
  34. Incur the disdain of the people of this sinful world when they say, “This is a hypocrite—who can take seriously anything he and his church have said and done?”
  35. Cause laughter, rejoicing and blasphemous smugness among those who hate God and the church
  36. Bring great pleasure to Satan, the enemy of God
  37. Break the eighth of the 10 commandments (theft), since masturbating to porn in private deprives my wife of the sexual pleasure that is rightfully hers alone
  38. Follow in the footsteps of men whose immorality forfeited their ministry, scandalized the world and the church, and caused me to shudder
  39. Heap judgment and endless problems on the women I commit adultery with
  40. Break the second of the 10 commandments, since sexual immorality is idolatry
  41. Cause one or more of the woman I commit adultery with to become pregnant, creating great personal and financial problems for them (and me)
  42. Gradually become desensitized to and bored with the type of pornography I consume, seeking more-perverse forms of sexual imagery
  43. Graduate to deviant forms of pornography, including rape, sexual violence and other sex acts that are illegal
  44. Eventually act out on my sexual fantasies in the real world, with prostitutes or others
  45. Get caught, arrested and charged for my sexual deviancy
  46. Get convicted and sentenced to spend time in prison with rapists, child molesters and fellow sexual deviants
  47. Earn the designation of Registered Sex Offender for life
  48. Find it next to impossible to land a job once employers discover I am a Registered Sex Offender
  49. Wind up an apostate, alienated from God
  50. Upon my death, be cast into the Lake of Fire with the sexually immoral (Revelation 21:8), to be tormented day and night forever, as I deserve
