If you ever wonder what the future looks like for you and your habitual sexual immorality, just look back in human history to the cities of Sodom and Gomorra. God punishes sexual sin, and the fate of these two cities holds a lesson for you. You read about it in the New Testament book of Jude.
“But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”
Jude 1:5-7
God rained brimstone and fire upon Sodom and Gomorra (Genesis 19). He overthrew those cities, all the plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. God did so at the time to punish the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorra because they had “given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh.” But he also did so as a warning to future generations.
If you struggle today with viewing pornography, masturbation or another sexual sin, God’s warning is for you. The vengeance of eternal fire that God visited upon Sodom and Gomorra is an example for you to take note of today. What God did in the past is an example of what He is going to do in the future. God punished those who gave themselves over to sexual immorality. He is going to do the same in the future with all who do likewise.
God’s message for you is the same as it was for Lot and his family: “Flee.” Flee your sexual immorality.
