Are You Living in BC or AD? | 1 Peter 4:3

You have engaged in enough unrestrained sexual immorality and shameless use of pornography. Those are things that the lost like to do. Time’s up for you.

“For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.”
1 Peter 4:3

God has put a time limit on your use of pornography and masturbation. If you are still watching porn and pleasuring yourself after all these years, you should know that you are well into overtime. The game could end any minute now. You are outstaying your welcome, and trying to outlast God’s patience.

Peter looked at his life as being divided into two periods: life before Christ, and life after Christ. Pre-conversion and post-conversion. Life in the dark, and life in the light. His time before Christ was the period of his life when he did what lost Gentiles desire to do. He walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. But then He met Christ. Or, rather, Christ met him. Peter’s life was different after that encounter.

In his first letter, Peter tells you that your life is like his. You’ve had enough time before meeting Christ to engage in lewdness and lust, pornography and masturbation, adultery and sexual immorality. Now your life is different. Your life after meeting Christ must look different from your life before meeting Christ. You have wasted enough of your lifetime in sexual sin. Now you are to spend the rest of your life living for Christ.

You have wasted enough of your life doing what unsaved Gentiles do. You have engaged in enough unrestrained sexual immorality and shameless use of pornography. Those are things that the unregenerate like to do. Today they have no place in your life. When you watch porn and masturbate, you act as though you never met Christ. You act as though you are still living in the years BC (before Christ), lost and under God’s judgment and wrath.

But you aren’t living in the years BC anymore, are you? Not if you are a Christian, someone who has been redeemed by the precious blood of Christ. Christ’s death, burial and resurrection on your behalf mean you are living today in the year AD, Anno Domini, the year of our Lord. Your old life has expired. Time to live in newness of life (Romans 6:4).
