You Can Never Have Enough Porn | Proverbs 27:20

No matter how much pornography you consume, there will never be enough to satisfy your lust.

Hell and Destruction are never full;
So the eyes of man are never satisfied.

Proverbs 27:20

Kenneth Shipp, 58, of Jonesboro, Georgia, had 447,268 pornographic images and 19,395 pornographic videos in his possession when agents raided his home in 2016. He was found guilty of possessing and distributing pornography, and sentenced to eight years in federal prison.

If you are a Christian man who looks at pornography but longs to quit, you may wonder why or even how any man would accumulate this volume of pornography. After all, just do the math. If you had a stash of porn this large, you could watch one porn video a day for 53 years and still not reach the last video in your collection. If you had a stash of images as large as Mr. Shipp’s, and if you looked at 10 images an hour, eight hours a day, 7 days a week, you would waste 15 years of your life looking at porn and still never reach the end of your collection.

The sheer magnitude of this man’s sin should not come as a surprise, though. Given enough time and given enough freedom, plenty of men could accumulate a collection of pornography on this scale. But the question isn’t really how, is it? The question is, “Why?” Why does a man increase his collection of sinful, wicked images and videos day after day, month after month, year after year, until he has more filth than he could possibly ever view? Because “the eyes of man are never satisfied” (Proverbs 27:20).

No matter how much pornography you consume, there will never be enough to satisfy your lust. No matter how novel, or depraved, or wicked the porn becomes as you progress in your sin, you will never be satisfied. Your eyes will always want more. That’s the problem with pornography. No man can use it in moderation. The thrill, the dopamine high, of the first images and videos eventually wanes. The eyes demand harder, more vile images and videos to reach the same high. And so the collecting begins.

If you want to avoid a fate like Mr. Shipp’s, forsake your pornography now. Destroy every image, every video, every DVD, every magazine, every electronic file, every instance of pornography in your home, your office and everywhere else you store it. Confess your sin to God. Beg Him to forgive you of your sin based upon the merit of Christ’s death on the cross and His glorious resurrection. Then start collecting something healthier, such as Bible verses to use to resist sexual temptation. The penalty you avoid will be more than just a simple stretch inside a federal prison. You will avoid hell and destruction, too.
