If you want to conquer your compulsive porn habit, if you want to break free from the grip of habitual sexual sin, learn a lesson from a young man who lived in Israel around 700 years before Christ. You read about him in the Old Testament book of Proverbs, chapter seven, starting at verse six:
“For at the window of my house, I looked through my lattice, and saw among the simple, I perceived among the youths, a young man devoid of understanding, passing along the street near her corner. And he took the path to her house, in the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night.”
Proverbs 7:6-9
Notice how Solomon describes the place where the prostitute looks for customers. It is a corner, an intersection of two or more streets so that the whore has the greatest chance of soliciting the largest number of men. It is her corner. People in this town see her at this corner during so many hours of the day and night, and on so many days throughout the year, that the corner is hers.
Now notice what the young man does. He heads to the part of town where he knows the prostitute operates, he finds the corner where he knows she stands, and he walks nearby. If you struggle with watching pornography, you have to admit that you are this youth. You know where to find pornography. You know the websites. You don’t stumble upon them. You visit them. You are the young man that Solomon observed—devoid of understanding. You say you want to conquer pornography, but you visit porn sites anyway.
If you are serious about eliminating porn from your life, prevent yourself from visiting the places where you know you’ll find it. Install porn blocking software (like Covenant Eyes) on every device you use, including your desktop PC, laptop, tablet and phone. Stop visiting the places where you know you’ll find the immoral woman who leads you into sin. If you want to avoid porn, avoid her corner.
