    I viewed porn for the first time when I was 11 years old and for the last time when I was 61. That’s 50 years of sinning against God, 30 of them as a Christian. I sinned repeatedly because I lied to myself. I lied so often that I eventually believed my lies. But that all changed on November 4, 2021, when I purposed before God to never look at anything wicked ever again, and to never masturbate ever again. Here I am, 366 days later, living what I purposed back then. I have a year of victory under my belt (excuse the metaphor) partly because I no longer believe those lies I told myself. Here they are.     Are you like the Apostle Paul? Do you ever cry out, “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?” Do you find that the things you want to do, you don’t do?     Then Paul has good news for you. Or, rather, God has good news for you, communicated through His servant, Paul, in the letter that Paul wrote to the church in Rome.     There are two mistakes you can make as a Christian man wanting to break free of pornography. There might be more than two mistakes, actually. But there are two big ones that you must avoid.

    The first mistake is thinking that your sexual purity is entirely up to you. You believe you are responsible for your sin, and therefore you are responsible for forsaking it. So far, so good. But you also think your victory is up to you. You must read your Bible more. You must pray more often and more fervently. You must mortify your flesh more thoroughly. In other words, you think conquering sexual lust is all up to you. This is a mistake.

    The devil has a playbook. The devil has a pre-set way of tempting you to sin sexually. You likely know this from bitter experience. But you also know it from God’s Word. In the sixth chapter of Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus, Paul tells the believers to put on the whole armor of God so that they can stand against the wiles of the devil. Wiles means schemes. Schemes means a playbook.

    The word “wiles” is methodeía in the Greek, properly, a “predictable (pre-set) method used in organized evil-doing (well-crafted trickery)” (Strong’s). It derives from the word methodos, a way of searching after something, an inquiry; a method. It means scheming, craftiness.     One of the challenges of quitting pornography is that you have a past that shames you and a future that terrifies you. If you are like many Christian men, you have a history of looking at sexually explicit images and videos in secret. The remorse and guilt you carry for your past behavior is immense. And, again, if you are like many of your brothers in the Lord who struggle in this area, you cannot imagine a future where you are free from your bondage. The grip of porn seems too hard to beak. So, your past looks bad, and your future looks bleak.

    But take courage with this thought: you don’t have to quit porn for good, just for today. Naturally, you want victory over your sexual sin to last, but the way to achieve your goal is to work only on today. Take your eyes off tomorrow, and next month, and next year. Fix

    I looked at pornography for the last time on November 4, 2021. I remember the date because that is the day I started this daily devotional. My goal was to help Christian men (and myself) abstain from pornography biblically. Here I am, 10 months later, and I have not looked at any pornography since then, and neither have I masturbated. Here are some lessons I’ve learned along my journey.

    1. Pastors don’t want to address the issue of porn
      Some pastors and church elders refuse to address the issue of pornography or masturbation from the pulpit or in private in any meaningful way with brothers in the congregation.
    2. Temptation can come anytime, anywhere
      A few days ago I visited a beach on a remote lake in Northern Saskatchewan. I was the only person on the beach. I suddenly experienced a strong temptation to take matters into my own hands, as it were. I was surprised at the suddenness of the urge, and that it struck in such an odd place. I resisted it nevertheless.

You try to avoid going online to sin. But one thing to remember about lust is that it can strike you offline, too.

    Porn-blocking software protects me against seeing pornography accidently or on purpose. I can’t stay sexually pure without this software, or, at least I haven’t tried to.

    I am a Christian husband and father who used to struggle with the sin of looking at pornography. I haven’t looked at anything pornographic since November 4, 2021, but that doesn’t mean I’m not tempted today. That’s why I have porn-blocking software installed on all of my electronic devices (desktop PC, laptop, tablet, smartphone).

    I happen to use Covenant Eyes because it works for me. Covenant Eyes is a porn blocker, also known as a porn filter. It filters out explicit content by blocking millions of explicit websites. If I enter any of these website addresses into my browser, Covenant Eyes blocks them so I can’t reach them. If I receive an email with a link in it to an explicit site, and if I click that link, Covenant Eyes blocks that, too. This is my first line of defense.

    Covenant Eyes also offers custom blocking. If I happen upon a website that is not pornographic but is nevertheless inappropriate, I add it to my list of inappropriate sites. Covenant Eyes blocks my access to this site from then on. My list of vo

    Sexual temptation seems unbearable when you are in the midst of it. Or perhaps I should speak for myself. Sexual temptation seems unbearable when I am in the midst of it. That is my “lived experience,” as they say these days. But I know something today about temptation that I didn’t know and that I couldn’t have believed nine months ago—it doesn’t last.

    That’s right. The temptation to look at pornography, the temptation to masturbate, no matter how strong, eventually goes away. It doesn’t last. The good news about Jesus being tempted in the wilderness for 40 days, if I may put it this way, is that it lasted only 40 days. Jesus got the victory over the devil, and then the devil departed from Him. That’s the good news of temptation—it only lasts for a season.

    Some people have split this petition into two. This is wrong: for the nature of the subject makes it manifest, that it is one and the same petition. The connection of the words also shows it: for the word but, which is placed between, connects the two clauses together, as Augustine judiciously explains.     There is no vaccine that protects you against sexual temptation. There are no treatments you can take, no courses you can complete, no self-help groups you can join, that will prevent you from being tempted to look at pornography or to masturbate. You may find ways to reduce your symptoms, but you will always have the disease of sexual immorality lurking about your body.

    This is the sad but true reality for Christian men. No matter how sanctified we become, no matter how close we draw to the Lord, we are still vulnerable to sexual temptation. I am not saying that we will be tempted, or that we will fall when tempted. I am simply saying that healthy progress along the path of sexual purity does not cure us of temptation.

    If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire.

    If you want to be free of pornography, you must pay the price. Sexual purity doesn’t come cheap. Freedom from sexual sin can’t be purchased with church attendance or a 12-step recovery program. If you want to be free of the grip of porn and masturbation, you have to pay, and pay dearly.

    Sanctification is costly. That’s what Jesus teaches. If your hand or foot causes you to sin, you cut it off and cast it from you. That’s the high price you must pay to avoid sinning. You must be willing to go through life with just one hand or just one foot in order to avoid sin and to please your Lord.

    Sometimes the remedy for committing a sin is to engage in a pure act. Sometimes the way to avoid temptation is to pursue something holy. And sometimes the path to purity is to make use of what God has already provided. Such is the case with sexual immorality in general and with adultery in particular.

    The preventive for adultery, says Solomon, is to “Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth.” In other words, let your fountain, that is, your wife, be blessed by keeping to her and keeping away from others.     When is the last time you plucked out your right eye and cast it away from you? I am not being sarcastic. I am asking you in earnest because this principle is one of the keys to conquering pornography, lust, sexual temptation and sexual immorality in your life. The path to sexual purity requires knowing and conquering your triggers.

    When Jesus said, “If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you,” He was speaking in the context of adultery. He had just said, “whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Then he gave the remedy. If your right eye causes you to sin by lusting after women, then pluck it out and cast it away from you.

    If conquering pornography was as easy as sprinting 100 metres, you would have victory by now. Most able-bodied men can sprint for 100 metres (or 100 yards).     I looked at porn for the last time on November 4, 2021. I remember the day because that’s the day I started this daily devotional. That’s the day I got serious about forsaking my sin and never going back. Eight months have passed since then, and I have learned a few lessons along the way.

    1. Writing these daily devotionals is a great motivator: I wish I was motivated by a more spiritual ambition, but simply writing this devotional each day gives me a tremendous incentive to not look at porn. I figure I will lose all moral authority if I commit the very act I write against seven days a week, and that fear keeps me motivated to not look.
    2. Porn will find a substitute: Once I stopped looking at immoral images and videos, I noticed that I still had a hankering for titillation and excitement, so I turned to action movies and crime dramas. I eventually realized what I was doing, and also realized that these movies weren’t edifying or helping me become Christlike. I noticed that, just because I have swept the house clean

    Lust is something you are to escape. Peter tells you and me that we have escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And this escaping is supposed to be permanent. The word in the Greek is apopheúgō, a combination of two words, “away from” and “flee.” It means to escape through flight, and carries the idea of separation, a full breaking away from the previous situation (Wuest). So, you don’t just run away from lust. You escape, and stay away.

We beseech God to give us power to overcome sexual temptation. We pray repeatedly, week in and week out, for God to deliver us from sexual urges. The problem is, He already has. We keep asking God to give us something that He has already given us.

    This is the conclusion that you and I must draw from what Peter tells us. After all, if God “has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness,” why do we need to ask Him for anything else that pertains to life and godliness? We don’t.     We are not to blame for having bad thoughts come into our minds. If we harbor them, then we are to blame. But if the devil comes and darts an evil thought into my mind, and I say, “Lord help me,” sin is not reckoned to me. Who has not had evil thoughts come into his mind, flash into his heart, and been called to fight them!

    One old divine says, “You are not to blame for the birds that fly over your head, but if you allow them to come down and make a nest in your hair, then you are to blame. You are to blame if you don’t fight them off.” And so with these evil thoughts that come flashing into our minds; we have to fight them, we are not to harbor them; we are not to entertain them. If I have evil thoughts come into my mind, and evil desires, it is no sign that I have committed the unpardonable sin. If I love these thoughts and harbor them, and think evil of God, and think Jesus Christ a blasphemer, I am responsible for such gross iniquity; but if I charge Him with being the prince of devils, then I am committing the unpardonable sin.

But if you have ever been in the grip of a powerful desire to sin sexually, and if that desire has attacked you for some length of time, you know the level of suffering involved. And you know that one way to make that agony end is to simply give in and commit the sin. The temptation vanishes. The suffering ends.

I finally realized how ridiculous it all was, me still struggling with a besetting sin after 30 years for crying out loud. So, I got serious, and made some drastic changes in my life to quit porn.

    Sexual sin is not an act, but a sequence. It begins with a trigger, and ends with an act. If you want to avoid the sinful act at the end of the sequence, you must make a U-turn long before you get there. If you want to take the way of escape that God always offers when you are tempted, you must know when to take it.

    This is the key to understanding the promise of 1 Corinthians 10:13—timing. Don’t expect God to offer you a door, or a window, or some other physical means of escape when you are tempted sexually.     If Twitter causes you to sin, should you keep scrolling? If Facebook tempts you to sin sexually, should you keep clicking? If Instagram causes you to commit sexual immorality, should you continue swiping? If Tik Tok causes you to commit adultery, should you keep watching? No, nope, never, and negatory. The key to gaining and maintaining victory over sexual temptation is twofold: (1) know your triggers, and (2) avoid your triggers.

    Jesus establishes this principle in His Sermon on the Mount.     Do any social media platforms cause you to look at women to lust after them (as Jesus forbids)? Do they cause you to commit adultery in your heart? In short, do any social platforms cause you to sin? Then you must pluck them out and throw them away. This is what Jesus demands of you.

    In practical terms, this means deleting your social media accounts. Not pausing them. Not uninstalling the apps from your phone but keeping the accounts active. To pluck out your eye and to cast it away you must delete, cancel, terminate and close all social accounts that cause you to sin.     The primary problem with pornography is proximity. Porn is easy to view because it’s easy to find. It’s always just a few clicks or swipes away, often free of charge. This wasn’t always the case. When I was a teen, the only way to get your hands on hardcore porn was to meet a man in a dark alley off Times Square or to visit a bookstore in Amsterdam. Today, hardcore pornography is right in your pocket. If you want to conquer your habitual sin of looking at porn, you must solve your proximity problem.

    This is the advice that Solomon has for his son. To avoid the immoral woman, says Solomon, “do not go near the door of her house.” That is, to avoid the seductress, the woman whose steps lead you down to death and hell, don’t go near the door of her house.     The key to victory over pornography isn’t fight, but flight. Your sexual purity depends not on your moral backbone nor on your strength of character nor on your level of willpower. It depends on your ability to avoid temptation in the first place. To conquer the sin of looking at pornography, you must learn to bypass—not battle—sexual temptation.

    This biblical tactic comes from none other than Solomon himself. In Proverbs 5, he warns you about the strange woman, which is to say, the sexually immoral, adulterous, forbidden woman. Her lips drip honey and her mouth is smoother than oil. In other words, the sexually immoral woman is seductive and enticing. She offers you sexual pleasures that appeal to your flesh, are enjoyable in the moment, but are sinful and forbidden. She leads you to your death and destruction.

He was a man of tremendous physical strength who on one occasion killed 1,000 Philistines with nothing but the jaw-bone of an ass. But Samson had a fatal moral weakness.

    The cure for habitual sexual sin is Christ and crucifixion. Christ as the primary object of your affection. And your own crucifixion of your flesh. You need both to gain victory over pornography and masturbation: adoration and action, worship and willpower, the Savior and self-denial.

    This is what the Apostle Paul means when he says you must “put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” You used to walk in lewdness and lust (Romans 13:13). Now you are to walk properly, decently. And that requires both adopting something new and abandoning something old. It means embracing Christ, and forsaking the flesh.

    If you want to discover if masturbation is a sin, simply examine one of the costs of discipleship for following Jesus. Jesus teaches that if you want to be His disciple, you must deny yourself.     How do you run away from something in your mind? If you are on a cruise and the captain commands you to flee to the lifeboats, you know what to do and where to run. If you are on a hike and your guide commands you to run away from a rattlesnake on the path in front of you, your feet intuitively know what to do.     When it comes to sexual immorality, the answer is marriage. Now, what’s your question? This is partly what Paul is saying in his letter to the church at Corinth. They posed a question to him in a letter. And Paul gave his answer to them in a letter that we know as 1 Corinthians.

    Their question appears to be about sexual relations for single people, whether that activity is good or bad, permissible or forbidden, in their present circumstances. Paul says that it is good for a single man to not have sexual relations with a woman, assuming he is able to contain his desires. But, if he is unable to contain those desires, he should marry.     If you want to get victory over habitual sexual sin, such as pornography and masturbation, first realize that you won’t find sexual purity on any map. Sexual purity isn’t a destination you hope to reach tomorrow. It’s a walk you take today.

    In Paul’s words, you must “walk properly as in the daytime.” That is, you are to walk honestly (KJV), behave decently (NIV), conduct yourself properly and honorably (Amplified). Your walk is to involve no orgies or drunkenness, no sexual immorality or sensuality, and no quarreling or jealousy. Your walk is to be different from those who live in darkness.

    Just don’t expect to arrive at a place in your life where you experience zero sexual lust, zero sexual temptation or zero sexual fantasies. T

    If your smartphone causes you to sin, should you keep it? No. Smash it to pieces, incinerate what remains, then scatter the ashes. If watching movies on Hulu triggers your lust and causes you to sin, should you keep watching? No. Cancel your subscription. If scrolling through youtube.com causes you to sin, should you keep visiting the site? No. Block it with porn-blocking software.

    Getting victory over pornography is an exercise in subtraction. Whenever you discover that something, or someone, or somewhere causes you to sin by looking at porn, listening to porn, or reading porn, you subtract it from your life. And then you take preventive measures so that you never use that thing or meet that person or visit that place again.

You and I live in a hyper-sexualized culture where provocative images are everywhere. Billboards, TV commercials, magazines, websites, retail storefront displays, social media, beaches, smartphone apps, sidewalks, books, fitness centers, movie streaming services, workplaces, college campuses, public transit, swimming pools, church pews, and hundreds of other places tempt you to lust after women with your eyes.

    If you want to gain victory over lustful looks, if you want to avoid the predictable chain of events that starts with an innocent look but ends with sexual sin (masturbating to porn, for example), learn a lesson from David, the King of Israel. I replaced my Samsung S10 smartphone with a Jethro SC490 feature phone, a so-called “dumbphone” designed for seniors. The transition has been difficult, painful and inconvenient, but I have never been happier. Here’s why and how I made the move, and why I’m never going back.

    I have been a Christian since the summer of 1991. I was converted at the age of 31. One of the defining moments of my conversion was the deliverance I received from my alcoholism. God took away my desire to drink, a Class A Miracle that I rank right up there with Moses parting the Red Sea. I have not touched a drop of alcohol since that day in June of 1991 when God saved me from the bottle without me even asking.

    Joseph was working as a slave in the house of Potiphar, the captain of the guard of the pharaoh of Egypt. Joseph was head of the household. Potiphar’s wife was soliciting Joseph daily to have sex with her. Finally, Joseph rebuked her:

    “There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

    One of the easy deceptions of pornography is that viewing it is just an activity. Watching an X-rated video on your own, you may be deluded into thinking that your activity is just a harmless way to pass the time and release some stress. But the Bible doesn’t look upon pornography, or masturbating to pornography, or sexual immorality, as innocent activities.

    Just consider the life of Joseph. After being sold into slavery and taken down to Egypt, Joseph becomes the overseer in the house of Potiphar, captain of the guard. Joseph is given responsibility for running Potiphar’s household. One day, Potiphar’s wife notices that Joseph is “handsome in form and appearance” (Gen 39:6). She lusts after him, and invites him to go to bed with her. Joseph refuses. This is how he replies:

    If you want to conquer pornography, masturbation or any other sexual sin, expect to leave something behind. A life of sexual purity looks different from one of habitual sexual sin. Just consider the life of Joseph.

    After Joseph arrives in Egypt as a slave, he becomes master of the household of Potiphar, the captain of the guard of the pharaoh of Egypt. Potiphar has a wife who notices that Joseph is “handsome in form and appearance” (Gen 39:6). She lusts after Joseph and invites him to have sex with her. Joseph refuses. She persists, day after day, but Joseph consistently refuses her invitations to sin against God. But, one day, she takes things further:

    “But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house were inside, that she caught him by his garment, saying, ‘Lie with me.’ But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.”

    The Apostle Peter gives you the formula in his first letter. He writes:

    “As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.”

    These evil desires are the evil lusts, evil urges, and evil, passionate longings that you faced before you were saved and that you still face after you are saved. The only difference is in what you do with these evil desires now. As you can see from this text, evil desires want you to conform to them. Evil lusts want you to mold your life around them. That’s why Peter commands you to not conform your life to your evil desires.

    If you are a Christian man, you cannot hope that your sexual lust is going to vanish with age. You cannot expect that it will atrophy without you doing something. To defeat lust, you must take the initiative. And that initiative is described for you in the New Testament book of Galatians:

    “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

    Your compulsive use of pornography is a heart issue. Sure, you live in a hyper-sexualized culture. And sure, pornography is attractive because it’s available, affordable and anonymous, and because it gives you a dopamine hit on queue. But your porn problem isn’t outside of you. You can’t blame anyone when you fall to temptation.

    Likewise with the multiple remedies on the market for helping “porn addicts.” Therapy, sexual addiction clinics, 12-step recovery groups, internet porn filters, rubber bands on your wrist, accountability partners and more all have their place. These are external aids that may help you gain victory over your compulsive sexual sin. But you can’t blame anyone, or any group, or any technology, when you give in to temptation and watch pornography.

    You know this, and I know this, because God’s Word is clear on the matter. You are drawn to watch pornography by an inward compulsion. That compulsion is lust. Read all about it in the New Testament book of James:

    If you struggle with the sin of watching pornography, you may wonder why it has such a grip on you. You likely can’t figure out why you keep giving in to it, going back to it, even when you know that pornography is pleasant for a moment, but afterwards leaves you feeling dirty, ashamed, deceitful and defeated.

    You feel this way because you have allowed pornography to become sovereign in your life. You have let it give the orders and call the shots. You have allowed sexual immorality to become king. You discover this when you read the book of Romans. The Apostle Paul tells you that, if you as a believer have died with Christ, been buried with Him, and been raised from the dead with Christ, you are to walk in newness of life. Then Paul says:

    If you want to learn how to get victory over pornography and sexual immorality, ask a brother in the Lord who has been there, done that, and won the victory. Ask someone like King David. David wrote a large portion of the Psalms. In one of those psalms, he declares one practical step that he took to prevent himself from transgressing God’s commandments. You find his declaration in Psalm 119:

    “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.”

    David is speaking to God. When he refers to “Your word,” he means God’s Word, the Holy Scriptures, particularly the law. Start at the end of the verse and you see that David had set a goal in his life. Notice that David didn’t simply want to avoid sinning. He wanted to avoid sinning “against You,” against his God.

    For example, if your primary battle is with the temptation to look at pornography, then find a promise in the New Testament where God tells Christians how they are to get victory over temptation. Consider the tenth chapter of the book of 1 Corinthians, for instance, where the Apostle Paul writes:

    “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

    If you are guilty of habitual sexual sin, you may call yourself an addict. You consider yourself powerless over your sex addiction, as a drug addict is powerless over heroin and an alcoholic is powerless over Jack Daniels. Pornography is your “drug of choice.” You require therapy and a 12-step recovery program. Quitting pornography means “going clean,” or “getting sober.” Looking at pornography and masturbating isn’t sin. It’s just a relapse.

    But when you read the New Testament, you never find sexual sin described as a narcotic, or lusting after women called an addiction. Instead, the writers of the New Testament describe sexual immorality as voluntary, something you do with your free will. Something you can conquer through obedience and faith. Consider the letter to the Romans, chapter six, in which Paul writes:

    “Do not go on presenting the parts of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those who are alive

    Jesus teaches that avoiding sins that start with your eyes requires you to take drastic and permanent measures. If you look at women to lust after them, for example, you commit adultery. Jesus says the way to prevent this sin is to tackle it at the source—your eyes:

    If you are a Christian man who is also married, you have likely made only one vow in your life. And that is the vow you made on your wedding day to your wife. You faced her at the altar, before God and a few other witnesses, and said something like this:

    “I, [NAME], take thee, [NAME], to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part, according to God’s holy ordinance; and thereto I pledge thee my troth.”

You learn of this remedy in the Gospel of Matthew, the fifth chapter, in the passage that recounts the sermon that Jesus delivered to a multitude gathered on a hillside in Galilee.

    This is what Jesus says:

    “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.     Do you feel shame and regret after watching pornography? Good. Those feelings prove you still have a working conscience. God uses your conscience to warn you that watching pornography is sin. And to warn you that this sin has consequences in the life to come if you won’t repent.

    If you are a Christian man who wants to conquer a compulsion to watch pornography, and if you have been struggling for some time without success, your problem might be that you aren’t obeying a clear command of Jesus on this issue.

    Jesus doesn’t teach explicitly about pornography, of course, but He does teach about how to win the battle with sins that involve your eyes. And that includes the sin of looking at pornographic images and videos. You find this teaching in a few places in the New Testament, in the passages in the Gospels that recount Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Here is what Jesus teaches, as recorded by His disciple Matthew:

    “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.     On June 28, 1914, a Serbian terrorist shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. The assassination gave hardliners in Austria-Hungary the pretext they needed to declare war against Serbia. Which led Russia to declare war against Austria-Hungary. And Germany to declare war against Russia. And France and Great Britain to declare war on Germany and Austria-Hungary.

    The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand started a chain of events that took the lives of 16 million soldiers and civilians. All of the death, destruction and heartache of WW I can be traced back to that pull of a trigger in a side street in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

    Are you a Christian man struggling with sexual sin? You will never conquer your sin until you conquer your triggers. After all, sexual sin isn’t an act as much as a process that ends in an act. The act is always preceded by a process, and that process is always preceded by a trigger. That trigger is usually something (or, to be more exact, usually someone) you see.

    If you are serious about quitting porn, make a covenant with your eyes. And while you’re at it, make a covenant with your phone, computer and TV, and anything else that tempts you to sin sexually. For men, sexual sin typically starts with the eyes. So make a covenant with your eyes. Do it now. And then keep that covenant.

    You prove you are serious about higher education by earning a post-graduate degree. You demonstrate your commitment to your field by maintaining a professional certification. And you demonstrate your commitment to a woman with a marriage license (and a marriage, of course).

    But what about your commitment to quitting porn? How do you prove to yourself, to your wife or girlfriend, to God, that you are serious about gaining victory over your habitual sexual sin? With a covenant. A covenant with your eyes.

    A covenant is a solemn, binding agreement that defines the relationship between two individuals. A covenant always has a stipulated goal to do, or not do, something. And a covenant has consequences. There are blessings if both people keep the covenant, and there are penalties if one person breaks the covenant.

    You read in the Old Testament about a man called Job who was tempted by his eyes to sin. This is what he did about it, in his own words:
